Can you hear a photograph?

Have you ever looked at a photograph and instantly heard a sound? How about while looking at a photograph you smell something. It’s weird how our brains work. How they are able to recall something so distinct in our brains that it is almost like we are there.

Today, we are going to hope to do that for you. Scroll down just a little past the blank space below and see if you are able to hear something or smell something. Do these photos bring you back to a different time? Do they invoke any sort of emotion for you?

When we look back on these photos we smell chlorine and cheap sunscreen. We can hear the sounds of laughter, splashing and the jolting whistle from a lifeguard. We can feel our feet burning under the hot sun as you move around the concrete. We hear the screaming of kids being chased or splashed. We can hear the underline voices of parents gossiping about their neighbors or family members. We can smell hotdogs and hamburgers. We can taste the salt on top of pretzels with that amazing cheese sauce.

Everything tastes better at the pool. A simple bologna sandwich and a coke just hits different at the pool. The feeling of freedom. For a lot of kids, this is the first time your parents left you alone. Dropping you off at the pool meant the ultimate in freedom. All day to do whatever you wanted, with no one to tell you what to do….. except the lifeguards that would make you stop running or forced you to get out of the pool for their hourly safety breaks. If you were really in trouble they would make you sit out for 10 minutes while your friends played and laughed at you for breaking the rules.
