Pueblo Wedding Venue: Union Depot

One of the top spots in Pueblo for weddings and events is the Pueblo Union Depot. Located on Victory Street, the Union Depot offers amazing parking, easy access to downtown and a massive amount of space to accommodate most wedding sizes. As local photographers we have photographed many weddings and events at the Pueblo Union Depot. Today we are going to share what we like and what could be better from the perspective of photographers.

Indoor vs. Outdoor Accomodations

The Pueblo Union Depot offers great accommodations both inside and out.
What we love - The Pueblo Union Depot has a large property. From the large main room for wedding ceremony to the entrance foyer to the large covered patio, you and your guests will have enough space for everyone. There is both street parking and a parking lot that provides parking for all your guests as well. Because the Union Depot is located downtown there is also plenty of local restaurants and shops to visit or for your guests.

Lighting

The lighting at the Union Depot is very appealing to your eyes. However for the camera this is a struggle. First, let’s talk about the loft. The loft is extremely dark. When talking with your photographer be sure that they are able to use flash and ask for examples. Without flash for the getting ready photos in the loft you will either get most photos back in black and white or they will look brown and muddy.

The lighting in the main area is again really beautiful to your eye but not great on the camera. Because of the large windows you get bright sunlight coming in throughout the day but when mixing that with the orange lights inside you get a mix of skin tones where your photos will have half of their skin on the bluer side and the orange side. Your photographer should be really good about editing or again flash. Be sure to ask for examples.

Atmosphere

When using the Union Depot’s accessories for your wedding you get high quality linens, great chairs and the decor is always nice. We have never had a complaint about the accessories. The space is big enough for a stage for a live band. We have done several events and weddings with a live band. The Union Depot is great at accommodating a DJ or a live band. There are several layouts for chairs, wedding and reception that the Union Depot can accomodate. This offers a great variety for any wedding.

Staff

The staff at The Union Depot are fantastic. From the security to the bartenders, we always have a great time with them. On most occasions we see this same staff at every event and they do a great job managing all sizes of events.

Getting Ready

What we love - The loft at the Pueblo Union Depot provides a very large getting ready space usually reserved for the bride and her party. This space is extremely large and offers ample space for everyone. It def provides a unique getting ready experience.

What could be better - The loft is exactly as the name sounds. A loft. It is used for multiple things which means it is not tailored to weddings. The loft is fairly dark and they don’t provide a ton of accessories for weddings. They have some chairs and a table but no couches, no mirrors and very little place to hang clothing. The other big downside with the union depot is there is no dedicated space for getting ready for the other half of the bridal party. Often times the guys are getting ready in the bathrooms or offsite and then arriving at the Union Depot.

Accessibility

The Union Depot provides great accessibility for all your guests and family. The loft would be the only downside here as there are a lot of stairs to access the loft which may pose a challenge if you have a grandparent or someone in the wedding party that cannot handle stairs. As far as the rest of the venue, everything is accessible on the ground level and with their close parking to the building, everyone will be able to get in no problems.

Parking

Lots of parking spots around the property including the street, side parking lots and the main parking lots at the back of the building.

Photo Opportunities

The Union Depot has a LOT of great opportunities for photos. The outside has not only historic downtown Pueblo but the train yard as well. There is a covered patio for outside photos if needed should there be rain on your big day. If the Union Depot is not enough for photo opportunities, you are just a few blocks away from the riverwalk. Honestly, in terms of photos opportunities you cannot go wrong with the Union Depot.

Things to consider for your photographer - Your photographer should be well versed in flash photography. This will come in handy for the loft, night photos and to help balance the ambient light with the natural light. Be sure to ask your photographer for examples of low light flash and how well their editing is in mixed light. If you are ever in doubt reach out.
