Top 5 photoshoot locations around Pueblo (based on past 5 years tracking every session) - Lepik Photography
We have been photographing around the Pueblo and surrounding area for the past 16 years. For the last 5 years we decided to track every session that has booked with us. For this post we are going to share the top 5 locations that have been booked with us over the last 5 years and the pros and cons of each of these locations. Of course these are not the only locations around Pueblo. We have a full location guide that offers several options. These are just the most booked.
5.) Anticline Lake/Pueblo Reservoir, Pueblo Colorado
WHAT WE LOVE: Anticline Lake and the Pueblo Reservoir provide the “let’s get out of town” feel without the drive. If you live in Pueblo or Pueblo West, you can access the Reservoir within about 10 minutes and just about 5 minutes to Anticline Lake. This makes it extremely accessible for everyone. If you want forrest vibes, you can make it happen here. If you want beach vibes, we can make that happen here. You are extremely likely to see wildlife when you are here and it truly feels like a place away from home.
WHAT COULD BE BETTER: You do need a parks pass ($10 daily per vehicle, or $30 year pass) to access the area. If you have the pass added to your license plate you are good to go. Pueblo Reservoir can get extremely hot in the summer. Anticline lake does provide lots of trees for shade but if you are wanting the beach vibes on the lake there is no sun protection. We encourage everyone too book the water sessions either early in the morning or late in the evening for the best possible photos.
4.) Waterworks Park, Pueblo, Colorado
WHAT WE LOVE: This place is absolutely wonderful. It is located just outside of Pueblo City Park. The new parking lot provides access to dozens of cars so you should be able to find a parking spot rather easily. One down by the water, you have access to the river that provides great photos, a small forrest area that doesn’t even look like you took photos inside Pueblo. You have access to a few bridges and because the water is low in this area it provides a great spot to get in the water for some unique photos.
WHAT COULD BE BETTER: The walk from the parking lot to the river is a little steep. If you are pregnant or if you have limited mobility you may find this part a little more difficult. It’s not bad because it is paved going down but if you are not good with an incline you may consider this before the session. Also, in the summer months the area can become quite packed with people enjoying the area. It often requires some extra time to get the shots you want to avoid too many people in the background.
3.) Riverwalk, Pueblo, Colorado
WHAT WE LOVE: Pueblo’s Riverwalk is iconic. Stretching several city blogs the Pueblo Riverwalk provides many unique opportunities for photos. An extremely large gazebo is great for large families that provides shade in the summer and protection from late afternoon storms. You can rent some paddle boats and get the perfect date night photos or take a stroll down the riverwalk to get fun photos near the water, in the grass or outside some of Pueblo’s historic buildings.
WHAT COULD BE BETTER: Honestly there is not really a downside here. If we have to give you one, it would be that this is the #3 most popular spot and it means that several people will have photos here. But honestly there are so many unique angles to pick from and with each family or couple being different we will still get something truly unique to just you!
2.) Union Depot, Pueblo, Colorado
WHAT WE LOVE: If you know Pueblo, you know the Union Depot. A historic train yard with both working and non-working trains, the iconic depot. Most times of the day we can photograph here because the building and trains provide shade. During business hours we can also access inside the depot for unique shots as well. The Union Depot is also a great spot for prom and homecoming photos for the local high schools. With this location you get some access to greenery, shade from the tress and buildings, a train yard and cool shots outside and inside the building.
WHAT COULD BE BETTER: Again, this is such a popular spot some families say they have already done photos here and want something else. Not a big deal but def something to consider. Also, so people are just not into trains. Of course we can capture the depot without the trains but some people want something more unique.
1.) San Isabel, Colorado
WHAT WE LOVE: San Isabel took the top spot and we understand why. San Isabel is about 45 minute drive from Pueblo and provides the beautiful picturesque photos you think of when you think Colorado. Located at the Lake, you get it all. Mountain roads winding through aspen trees, a grove of aspen tress, streams and the iconic San Isabel Lake. We can make anytime of the day work for these photos but the best times are early mornings and late evenings. Not much beats a beautiful sunset in San Isabel. San Isabel is also usually 15-20 degrees cooler than Pueblo so if you want photos outside during the summer, you can’t beat beautiful 70-80 degree days opposed to 90+ days in Colorado.
WHAT COULD BE BETTER: San Isabel does require a daily pass fee for $10 or $100 for the year. Some people don’t like paying fees and we understand. Also you gotta commit to a 45 minute drive each way but honestly it is so beautiful there is no reason you shouldn’t take this drive. We do also charge a $100 travel fee for this location. That covers our additional drive time and parking pass, but honestly, IT IS TOTALLY WORTH IT!
