Why fall is the PERFECT time for senior photos!

We don’t know about you but we LOVE fall in Colorado. We also feel like this is probably one of the best times of the year to get your senior photos taken. Here are a few things you should consider for the best FALL photos in Southern Colorado.

Timing is everything

There is only a short window when the fall leaves are changing in Colorado. It usually takes place over 4 weeks but those 4 weeks are divided into locations around Colorado. For example, in the mountains you can expect fall to start happening late September through middle of October. Here in Pueblo, fall starts a little later lasting almost till November.

But the fall colors are not the only thing you are on a time crunch with. Most schools require senior photos to be turned in by the first week of November. This means you CANNOT wait to book your senior photos till the last week of October to get them in. Your photographer won’t have the ability to edit them and get them delivered to you by the deadline.

We recommend you book your fall photos as early as possible. Like we said, we LOVE fall senior photos and guess what? So do most other people as well. This means, most photographers start booking their calendars as early as June/July for the upcoming fall season. If you have a photographer in mind for the fall photos, you should be getting on their calendar as soon as possible to ensure you get the photographer of your dreams.

Outfits/Hair/Makeup

When you are picking out your outfits for senior photos in the fall you should consider a few things. First, you want to avoid lots of logos. Shirts with big brand names on them clash with all the texture of the background. We encourage all seniors to stick with plaids or solid colors for their photos.

Shoes - If you are planning nature photos you should bring shoes that support that. We will be hiking stairs, going through grass fields so ensuring you have the proper footwear is important. If you def want heels, just bring a pair of sneakers to get around the area easily.

Hair/Makeup - We suggest you get your hair done a few days before your session. Guys should shave the day before to avoid irritation and same with hair cuts. Don’t get the haircut the day of.

Stick with outfits that are true to you and your personality. If you never wear a sweater you may not want to wear one for your senior photos…..Or maybe you do. The main point here is to be comfortable in what you are wearing. Clothes should be sized to match your body type. Don’t get the biggest, baggiest outfits. These look more sloppy than appropriately sized clothing.

Props and Accessories

We encourage it! If you play a sport, have a fancy car you love or have a really unique activity you are involved in, definitely consider bringing it with you. Musical instruments are a great choice as well. These showcase your personality and make your photos unique from the rest. If you are unsure, feel free to reach out to us with questions. We can give you lots more examples.
